The application for admission opens on Friday, November 23, 2018 and will close at 11:59pm EST on Friday, March 9, 2019. We anticipate approximately 500 applications this year for 110 available spaces.
After all required materials are received and the application for admission is completed, the application file will be assembled and shared with the admissions committee. The admissions committee is comprised of faculty, and occasionally students, from the Perelman School of Medicine.
Selections are based on a record of academic excellence, a genuine interest in experiencing the life of a student studying medicine, a demonstrated passion for learning more about the program, and effort to complete the application and all supplemental materials as promptly as possible ahead of the deadline. By design, our application is meant to feel similar to a college application. We expect applicants to use this experience to gain valuable experience and have the opportunity to present the best information possible to the committee.
Admissions decisions will be sent via email before 5pm EST on Friday, April 5, 2019. Historically, on that day, the committee has invited enough students to fill the class to capacity. Those accepted students will be asked to RSVP by April 12 and pay their tuition by April 19.
The committee will also choose a limited number of students for the waitlist. If a student who was accepted declines their invitation, the committee will chose a student from the waitlist to fill the vacancy. Waitlisted students should note that this process could take several weeks to complete.
Those who were not accepted or waitlisted will be denied admission to the program. Applicants should note that admission to this program is quite competitive and we simply do not have enough spaces to accommodate everyone. Rising juniors who are denied would have another year of eligibility to apply again next year. Regardless of the outcome, we hope that all applicants will find that they learned a lot from the application process and find ways to reflect on the experience when they apply to college.
